Frequently Asked Harman Questions
Before I answer any questions, I want to say thank you to all the people who have reached out already to express their concerns and surprise. I am considering things carefully and trying not to make any kneejerk decisions.
I have updated and deployed the new sites faster than I was planning, so please check back again. Yes, I want to tweak the appearance a little more.
Also a very large thank you for all of the notes and networking during this process. It has made me feel good and stopped any worrying.
Are you impacted by the Harman layoffs?
Yes, I am one of the 650 employees of the Harman Professional that will be laid off. As of this writing (September 13, 2017), I do not know my end date. Harman has indicated I will receive sixty days notice as a minimum.
Who else has been laid off?
I am not sure and I do not want to speak for others.
What is your opinion of this decision?
As I am impacted I have an opinion. I am not going to share it. The easiest answer is to not bite the hand that feeds you. The news is very fresh to me, so I am not able to explain things well.
What can I do to help?
I am planning on taking my time and evaluating all options, so if you know of open opportunities, please feel free to let me know. Plus I will always take free food and drink.
What do you want to do?
I am still trying to determine that. I know I want to work with Audio, Video, Lighting, and Control Technologies. I know I want to do new things. I know I like challenges.
Are you willing to relocate?
Boy Howdy! I moved to the Elkhart, Indiana area for the job with Crown/Harman. With that going away, I have no pressing reason to stay.
What is the timeline of all these changes?
Harman has indicated that they will provide at least sixty days notice of when my last day will be. To be frank, Harman has also provided incentive for me to work through to my final date. There is also the fact that I want to close things out properly. I will be making introductions as things transition.
But I still have more questions!
Perfectly understandable, I still have lots of questions. Feel free to drop me a note via the contact form.
